Purpose of the Citizenship Form N-400:
This form is used to apply for U.S. citizenship.
There are several categories of applicants that may apply for US citizenship by completing form N-400. Please read the Guide to Naturalization to make sure that you fall into one of these categories.
To use this form you must be at least 18 years old and be either a lawful permanent resident for at least 5 years or a lawful permanent resident for at least 3 years, married to and living with the US citizen for the last three years.
A person, who has served honorably in the US Armed Forces, is a lawful permanent resident and at least 18 years old may also apply. If you are married to a US citizen who is employed or deployed abroad, in some circumstances you may be eligible for expedited naturalization under section 319b of the INA Act.

Filing fee for Form is $595. An additional biometrics fee of $80 is required when filing Form N-400. The fee total is $675.

To apply to adjust your status to that of a permanent resident of the United States or register for permanent residence. The filing fee for Form I-485 is $930. An additional biometrics fee of $80 is required when filing Form I-485.
