Marriage Faces Renewed Threat in New Jersey.
After six months of dormancy, the New Jersey same-sex "Marriage" litigation apparently gained new life last week when the case was transferred from Hudson County to Mercer County. Michael Adams, an attorney for the Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund, told the New Jersey Daily Record this week that the New Jersey Attorney General was expected to file his first response in the case by the end of January.
In addition to the Legal proceedings, Lambda has also initiated a series of town meetings in the state, seeking to mobilize grassroots support for same-sex "Marriage" and domestic partnerships. The new campaign is entitled "Supporting All Roads to Justice: Marriage Equality in the Courts, Domestic Partnership in the Legislature." Investing heavily in this two-pronged strategy, Lambda is seeking both Legal recognition of same-sex "Marriage" and a separate domestic partnership system to provide "rights for all sorts of unmarried families living together." Fifty-five state and national organizations have endorsed Lambda's New Jersey Campaign, including the ACLU of New Jersey, the National Organization for Women-New Jersey, the New Jersey State Federation of Teachers, several local religious bodies, and numerous gay rights organizations.
